blank screen

After upgrading from 7.10 to 8, I get a blank orange screen after logging in.

I'm using an ATI Radeon 7500 graphics card. Do I have to re-configure the video driver?

Well, things went from bad to worse. I tried to reconfigure the X server, but the error message said it wasn't installed properly. Trying to upgrade that failed, and now the box won't even boot.

I guess I'm going to have to put another drive in the box, install Heron on that, and try to recover data from the old drive.

I'm a bit disappointed with Ubuntu at this point. The upgrade from Fawn to Gibbon went fine, lulling me into a false sense of stability and security. I'll have to be more circumspect in the future and attend to a full backup prior to an upgrade. Sage advice in any event I suppose.
