When attempting to restart Hardy on my Dell XPS-210 it hangs at the Ubuntu screen (when the logo is displayed). However, I can shutdown and boot without any problems. Any ideas?

when i upgraded my toshiba satellite to hardy, i can't shutdown or restart without hanging after the ending splash screen is up :?

maybe it has something to do with the gvfs partition, it shows errors (i'll have to write down the error later to show what i mean)

I had the same issue with yesterday's kernel update: http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=818241

Good Luck!

I took 17 out too. Only then did 18 work right. I haven't had any issues since, but I was about ready to start from scratch anyway.

You may not want to do what I did. Have you tried booting to 17? If if works, maybe take 18 out and stick with 17. Keep in mind, all of my kernels were having the same problems.

tried both, neither works, still hangs at shutdown and restart. now it won't even pick up any networks
(on my work laptop now...)

edit: got the networks back :D
still gotta figure out the shutdown problem though...
