ok i am totally new to ubuntu, lets just get that out there first. i recently had windows crash and lost everything. so i jumped to ubuntu. now i have no idea how to use all my nifty gadgets i have collected in my years of nerdness. First is my iPod. . . i have amarok, but i cant get it to sync with my iPod. I did however get it to delete all the songs off of it =D> success? nope. . . i fail again. the second is my beloved backpacking buddy, my Garmin GPSmap60CSx, this is always with me no matter where i go, but now i cant update my maps or download my tracks, or and this is the killer, i cant Geo-Cache any more. . . Help me Ubuntu Forums, Youre my only hope.

thank you so much in advanced,

and this is the official ubuntu documentation to get ur ipod up and running....

you can try to use gtkpod.... its the easiest to use.... maybe not the most aesthetically pleasing

If Garmin's Mapsource is really what you want, why not use it? The Wine AppDB (http://appdb.winehq.org/objectManager.php?sClass=version&iId=11609) gives it a Platinum rating on Hardy.

i agree, try wine, it works awesome for most simple windows apps
(alot easier that dual booting too)

another option would be vmware (virtual machine)

you can run windows inside your ubuntu install

for an ipod, rhythmbox, gtkpod, and amarok all work, i've use them on 2 different types of ipods. maybe one of the newer ipods doesn't work, in which case you might have to wait for the next release or do some searching to find out what to do. can't speak for the other stuff.

MapSource runs great under Wine. The MAP transfers are rather slow, and it did take some tweaking to make MapSource find the Garmin, but it works well once that is done.

I have the same exact GPS you do.
