Greetings.

This is my first post here and I am a total newbie to GNU/Linux and Ubuntu. I began to use it last year, but it was only last week since I quit to Windows (non VM Windows, actually, I still need Matlab).

This morning I noticed a bunch of actualizations for Ubuntu. I downloaded them and went to do some errands. When I returned, noticed that my PC was slightly slower. As I was running some heavy stuff on Matlab, I thought it was that, but I shut down the VM and it is still slow. I see Top and XORG sometimes takes up to 40% of my CPU, a Dual Core 2.2GHz/800Mhz FSB/4MB cache. The VM seems to take forever to boot, even it it was very quick before. GNOME is painfully slow, considering I have that CPU and two full gigs of RAM.

This is my system configuration:

Inspiron 1520
Intel® Core™ 2 Duo T7500 (2.2GHz/800Mhz FSB/4MB cache)
Memory 2GB Shared Dual Channel DDR2 at 667MHz
LCD Panel Glossy, widescreen 15.4 inch display (1280x800)
Video Card 128MB NVIDIA® GeForce® 8400M GS
Hard Drive Speed: 120GB SATA Hard Drive (7200RPM)
Network Card and Modem Integrated 10/100 Network Card and Modem
Combo or DVD+RW Drive CD / DVD writer (DVD+/-RW Drive)
Sound Card High Definition Audio 2.0
Wireless Networking Cards Dell Wireless 1505 Wireless-N Mini-card

Please help me, I would not like to have to fresh install everything again for the nth time. I have been through pains using Gutsy and then Hardy. I do not know which logs would you need to identify the problem, sorry about that.
