Well, I have ask and hear of this like million times, but I really want to found a Laptop doesn't come with pre-installed OS. No Mac, No Linux, and Hell NO windows. Also every one I know in Earth say, they want to upgrade their computer, but they doesn't want to use Vista because it take 10 mins to boot , and 5 mins to open up a software. And every one of them ask me to install Xp for them. It is really annoying because you need to found all the drive for their laptop, and install all the software for them one by one. Even my English Pro say he doesn't want Vista, we make a deal too, he teach/edit my English, and I teach him Linux, haha (But that is another story)

They and I are poor student, we don't have the money to get a Laptop for school, and pay $150 to $300 just for a OS or pre confg OS while we can do it ourself.

HaHa, Just hoping to get a Fair Laptop that as cheap as possible.

Thanks. hehe

The only place off the top of my head that offers the possibility is Falcon Northwest, but you have to contact them specifically to do it (as their form doesn't allow it), and you have to pay an arm and a leg to begin with.

I suppose you could get a used Laptop and ask for the OS to be removed. They probably charge you for the work though. Or hunt for Labtops that were tossed out but still functional and use Ubuntu Live CD to clear its OS out i suppose.

LXer (http://lxer.com/module/forums/t/23168/) had a list of vendors that sold computers with linux and No OS pre-installed. There is also a list of No-OS vendors here (http://mcelrath.org/laptops.html). You could also get a laptop from a vendor that sells preinstalled linux PCs (such as System76) to avoid paying MS tax and format the HD.

Depends on the contry you are in..

Very few places will sell a laptop without an OS.

But if you call a company like Dell's sales line you can sometimes wangle them to not install an OS If you are polite and have a "gift of the gab".

But go for a linux Ubuntu Laptop the OS is free :D:D

I read on a Lenovo blog that Microsoft doesn't allow it's hardware partners to sell blank PC's - they must have an OS of sorts. I could rant and rave for hours on the absurdity of this... but I'll let everybody else do it for me :)

You mean BYOPC? That just handles Desktop Componets and such. He wants a OSless Laptop.

The laptop I'm using came from Novatech and it was about £50 cheaper buying it with no OS, so I suggest looking at their low end laptops.

Buying a computer with linux and formatting the disk should work.

BTW - vista doesn't take 10 mins to start up - My vista install boots up and logs on much faster than my ubuntu one does (running on the same computer).

Here in India, we get Compaq laptops with FreeDOS installed, no other OS. They are reasonably configured and cheap.

Compaq is (now) an HP company; no HP laptops are shipped without an OS, at least here in India.

Was about to write the same thing.
I think LG does that too.

1: Buy any laptop.

2: Remove the hard drive and store securely.

3: Fit replacement blank hard drive.

Bingo, brand new laptop without OS.

Alternatively:

1: Buy any laptop

2: Use Boot & Nuke (http://dban.sourceforge.net/) to wipe the hard drive clean.

Bingo, brand new laptop without OS.
