How so? It's set for US server now. Should I switch it to main?

slow as ~2kbps
yes thats like 1/3 the transfer rate of a 56k modem. I have a 512 kbs connection
usually I get 324 kbs transfer rate from the repos. This has been happening since hardy was released

I'm getting it too, the Canadian Mirror is so slow I switched to the United States one. Did the mirrors get slow or is their more users?

go into synaptic and go to settings >> repositories >> and select other from the dropdown menu and the click on select best server if you run through command line it will make a list you can lok at to see other options.

I'm getting 110kB/s (as usual) so it's probably not a problem about repos.

Working fine here again.

it's up to 23 kbs now witch is a 1000% improvement, but not the 15,000% improvement I was hoping for

It's been really sporadic for me, sometimes it will be really speedy going fast as ever. But next package I install is slow. =\
Good to know that I'm not just imagining this.

Whenever US repositories are slow, my backups are servers in Estonia and Spain. They are the unsung and often overlooked download heroes.

I tend to use the Irish HEAnet academic servers for repos and CD images, they seem faster and more stable than those in Britain or the US. Downloading Hardy on release day, I had no problem or slowdown whatsoever. No doubt now I've posted this, everyone will flock to them! The servers mirror SourceForge, too.

In the repo selection tool there's a button which offers to find the best (fastest) mirror. It has been very helpful for me just yesterday evening.

Have you guys followed the repo mirror suggestion which has been mentioned twice?
I went from 20-70kb on the main Canadian server to 1,100 - 1,250kb by using the tool in synaptic which finds the fastest mirror. This was on the extremely slow release day. If I can hit almost 10 megabits/second on release day by switching to a mirror I'm pretty sure anyone complaining about slow servers isn't using a mirror.

As Lostincyberspace said earlier in the thread, Synaptic Package Manager has an option to select the best mirror (mine went to 1Mbps afterwards). I have a walkthrough on how to do it down below (with pictures!).

Mirrors are nice, but they aren't always equally up to date.

I think that if you go for one of the xx.archive.ubuntu.com sites, where xx is a country, you're going to get an up-to-date mirror. The problem comes with the others, at universities and such like, which may not be updated as often. I use ie.archive.ubuntu.com (it's not as busy, and I'm half the distance from Dublin than from London anyway) and updates arrive as soon as they're pushed out.

they're usually a couple hours behind so mirrors are ok

Mirrors may be a little behind, but usually not by much. And until either the main servers are beefed up or the rush of people upgrading to Hardy slows down, it's the best alternative to downloading updates at 50 Bps (that's bytes per second, which I was getting just a week ago).

You ought to call yourself lucky to get as much as 50 Bps. Other folks here have claimed to have attained rates of 6 mb/s.
