Tvtime doesn't work. when I run it I get: ivtv invalid argument, NO video source, No signal.

But I can tune into tv with Mplayer. What's going on?

I have a hauppauge wintv pvr pci II 26xx tuner card according to Windows XP. I'm running ubuntu 8.04 LTS

I've tried mythtv and that was a disaster. I spent alot of time messing with that and it never worked. So please don't suggest using that product unless you have an idea of why it may not have worked for me.

I'm using a Hauppauge PVR 150 and that one does not work with tvtime because of the mpeg decoder within this card. No worries. You can use mplayer, totem, vlc, xine-ui to mention a few.

I use vlc with this command:

vlc --video-on-top -I dummy pvr:// :pvr-device="/dev/video0" :pvr-norm=0 :pvr-frequency=-1 :pvr-bitrate=-1 &


and Xine with:

ptune-ui.pl -d /dev/vdeo0 & cat /dev/video0 | xine stdin://mpeg2 &

Totem works with:

totem /dev/video0

BUT..you need to intall ivtv-utils for setting up the right frequenty. I live in Haarlem, the Netherlands, so I creates little scripts and placed theme in a local /home/user/bin map.

Hi,

there is a frontend to control your tv-card and to switch through stations etc.

Look at this thread (http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=763698) on ubuntuforums to learn more about it.

Thanks so much for this! TV-Viewer looks great. I've gotten everything installed and have ALMOST succeeded in passing the wizard's setup test, save for one problem.

There seems to be a file that the program cannot locate in order to turn on the onscreen display: OSD.CAT.

Any ideas?

Hi you should install the following packages via synaptics:
tcl, tk, libtk-img, xosd-bin, xdg-utils, scantv and mencoder

But osd_cat is not necessary to run the program. Even without it you should be able to pass the configuration wizard.
Please start the program in a terminal and post the complete ouput.
Also the output of

tv-viewer_diag
would be of interest.

-C device set vbi device file. [/dev/vbi]
-s skip channel scan
-a full scan (all frequencies, not just

couldn't execute "osd_cat": no such file or directoryBTW, I am planning on performing some upgrades soon, so those buffer errors should go away. Nonetheless, I am able to view live TV in MPlayer via the command line without any trouble (and at a very respectable quality/speed):
