Take a look there:
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/HardwareSupportComponentsPrinters/CanonPrinters/Canon_LBP_2900
You can download the newest Canon drivers for Linux from:
http://software.canon-europe.com/products/0010419.asp
Let me know if it`s working. I will switch back to Windows untill the Ubuntu will recognize my Canon LBP 3000 printer and my scanner Canoscan Lide 90 out of the box.

All you have to do it`s to follow the steps described in the link I posted above, and you should not have any problem. What can be so hard?

I've had installed Canon 2900 at once as easy, as it wrote in many HowTo's, including Ubuntu-wiki, BUT now i got Canon i-SENSYS LBP2900B and it's not working in my Ubuntu 8.04.

Do you want to say that your printer appears in System-Administration-Printers but you can not print with it?

download the drivers from Canon, install them following the instructions, and you printer should work. I did that for my Canon LBP 3000 and I have no problem.
And one more thing - download also the instructions from Canon and follow them carefully, and your printer will work.

lbp 3000 =/= lbp 2900 i-sensys

drivers v. 1.60 don't seem to be ok, so you need to install older v. 1.30 (to be found @ ftp://download.canon.jp/pub/driver/lasershot/linux/ ).

-> just follow the instructions from: https://help.ubuntu.com/community/HardwareSupportComponentsPrinters/CanonPrinters/Canon_LBP_2900

and use v. 1.30 drivers ... ok, it's not perfect, but at least it works...

First one question: is the printer connected as a USB printer or as a network printer?

My system is kubuntu, so you will have to try to translate my instructions to Ubuntu.

Do one check: go to System Settings>Printer and click on "Add new Printer/Class". Click yourself forward to the screen, where you do the "Backend Selection".

In this window you should be able to select: "Local Printer (parallel, serial, USB)". CAN YOU SELECT this option, or is it grayed out?

If this option IS grayed out, go to this link:

http://kubuntuforums.net/forums/index.php?topic=3089184.0

and follow the instructions in the second post of tomstrong. These instructions helped me to get my printer up and running after 4 weeks without printing!

Good luck!

I had the same problem with my CANON i-SENSYS LBP2900

"canít find in CUPS Spooler Entry"

my mistake was writing LB2900 instead of LBP2900

/usr/sbin/lpadmin -p LB2900 -m CNCUPSLBP2900CAPTK.ppd -v ccp:/var/ccpd/fifo0 -E
so check your syntax!
