I just installed 8.04 tonight, and now I'm trying to install Sun java. I've used the package manager to get most of the packages, but I am unable to get Firefox to use it. Instead, it is prompting me to use GCJ plugin.

Any help would be appreciated.

The easiest is using add remove in applications just open it click all available packages then type Ubuntu in search and Ubuntu restricted will come up click and install. I would also install the gstreamer stuff type gstreamer and then vlc and install. This will cover a huge amount of stuff for easy media etc.
