I use ubuntu studio and love the low latency, but I'm getting sick of gnome. In their quest for a minimalistic desktop I feel they're omitting important features. Plus, I've been wanting to get back into KDE, it seems like it's what I'm looking for in a DE. Is it possible to run KDE on the real time kernel? Are there any special steps I need to take, or do I just install it over my current gnome setup?

I'm just looking to use the stable version of KDE 3 right now. But when KDE 4.1 comes out in the summer I'll probably upgrade, as it looks very impressive.
