How to install latest ati vga drivers?

i just downloaded from official site... its a *.run file and i don`t know that to do with it ;x

pls need help, ive just installed Silkroad on to my machine (with Wine) its updated and when it turns on all textures are black everything is black... i think that i need to install drivers.. am i right ? or ain't ?

Your best bet is to use the synaptic package manager and install ENVY. Envy will check your system and download the correct ATI driver and intall it. If you downloaded ENVY correctly, it should be listed under your Application-System Tools.

i did it... but i cant play games normaly... ;x

they crash, lagg or even cant turn on... All of them cantabile with wine

First check and see that your ATI driver is enabled, go to System-Administration-Hardware drivers and click on it. A window should open up showing the restricted driver that you are using. The ATI should be listed with a green light and checked off (meaning in use). If you have that, then go to System-Preferences-Appearance and click on Appearance. A window will open up and click the top tab marked Visual Effects. Now this shows 3 items. Now if you have a black dot by Normal or Extra that initiates Compiz Fusion which in my lame term understanding gives you special desktop effects. The ongoing problem with ATI and Compiz is that Video playback/ OpenGl screen savers/ ( I do not play games on my computer, but games might use OpenGl processes. I know Google earth crashed on me if I use normal or special effects and Google Earth uses OpenGl. This is a compatibility problem with ATI and Compiz. To see if it is that problem, change you Visual effects to "none". Then try your game, if you do not get screen flickering, then you know it is that. There was a slight work around I found where you can switch back and forth using a tray icon. here is the link
