View Full Version : [ubuntu] Resize Operation Failed (8.04)
May 3rd, 2008, 06:45 PM
I've been trying to finish the install for Ubuntu, but I can't get past the partition stage because inevitably I have to resize a partition, and that operation fails. I'm defragmenting in vista right now (I heard it might help). Any ideas?

Defragment, check and resize your vista partition using the vista tools. Let ubuntu install in the unallocated space that remains after you resize the partition using the Vista partion manager. As always be sure to back up your data before playing with your partitions.

I didn't even know vista had a partition manager. Thanks. I'll try it as soon as defragmenting gets done with.

If you can't get Vista to do good job of resizing, then use PartedMagic - works from a live CD.
Will set up all the Ubuntu partitions for you.

Thanks a lot. Vista for some reason could only give me 40 gigs worth of memory for Ubuntu, but it was enough to install, so thanks! I'll try out parted magic later.
