I installed sudo apt-get install libflashsupport
but the sound still cuts off once in a while and the only way to fix it is by restarting. are there any more fixes for this?

Is it a clean install? If so, check your sound card. This is mine:

What does it say after *mutimedia? UNCLAIMED?

I have no sound at all. Did a clean install from CD. Using onboard sound with an ASUS P5B-PLUS motherboard.

lshw -C sound gives me:

lshw -C sound

All my repositories are enabled there.

Canonical-supported Open Source software (main)
Community-maintained Open Source software (universe)

Under Third-Party Software tab, I have:

http://archive.canonical.com/ubuntu hardy partner

http://archive.canonical.com/ubuntu hardy partner (Source Code)

checked as well.

I still get the same output; it can't find the package.

It's nor in the repos then. Anyway, I find strange that Hardy Heron would not recognize your card in a clean install. Burn a new CD and install again.

Grayfox444: A bit of googling got me the repository with the linux-backports-module (deb http://ftp.crihan.fr/ubuntu/ hardy-backports restricted main multiverse universe), but installing it got me nowhere. Try it anyway, and good luck.

i think i've figured it out.
the sound won't play if there is a pair of headphones plugged in as well. so it's only running one output apparently.

is there a way to change that? i could do that on feisty fawn.
