I am a newbie at Java development with extremely limited C# experience. I installed the Eclipse IDE and intend to use it for my experimentation with Java and maybe later C++. I notice that the version installed by the Add/Remove Applications and Synaptic appears to be version 3.2 of the IDE. The current version of the IDE appears to be 3.3.
I may be trying to run before I can walk, what I am trying to do can probably be just as easily done in a text editor and running Javac from the Terminal, but I just found it curious specially since I believe Eclipse 3.3 was released in 2007. I intend to run the default compiler (GCJ) specially since I may experiment with compiling to machine code at some point in the future.
BTW this is running on 8.04 Hardy final AMD64 on an AMD X2 machine.
