View Full Version : [all variants] Compiz and Radeon 9000 IGP (device id: 7831)

I have done lots of research and fiddling to get my Toshiba A85-S107 to work with Compiz. Nothing has worked so far, but from what I can see, the card is supported and everything seems to be in order. When I click on Appearance - Visual Effects - Extra, it says desktop effects could not be enabled.

What am I missing?

Thanks,

I fixed it following Ubuntu Guide (http://ubuntuguide.org/wiki/Ubuntu:Gutsy)

To those having the same problem, add the directory "compiz" under your .config directory in your home directory, e.g.:

home/darthvader/.config/compiz

Then enter this into a terminal:

echo SKIP_CHECKS="yes" >> $HOME/.config/compiz/compiz-manager

Then reboot and activate your "extra" desktop effects. Apparently, this video card is blacklisted for use under Compiz. But it works! I had to do the same with another laptop to get Compiz to work as well.
