Have been trying to install Ubuntu on an 8GB 150x Patriot pen drive to run a Dell Latitude 600. Have run into two issues that have me stumped so far.

With the gutsy persistent install as per the wiki I can't find a way to lock the live user and set a password for it, any suggestions? Changing gdm.conf-custom seems to kill things otherwise with the exception of the Gnome bug, gutsy works reasonably well as a persistent live install.

With hardy I was trying to use the normal installer to set up a password locked session. However when Gnome starts all I get is a blank (gdm/Gnome) background, again any ideas?
