View Full Version : [xubuntu] [SOLVED] Install fails: ext3 creation fails on formatted partition

I'm trying to install a fresh Xubuntu over a previous Xubuntu that I've backed up what I want from.

The disk appears to be successfully formatted, because I can no longer access the previous Xubuntu, but it fails saying that ext3 could not be created, then asks me do i want to continue or bump back to partitioning. Continue takes me to a LiveCD environment, go Back just puts me back a couple of steps before facing the same problem again later.

Its a 20GB IDE drive.

Having a torrid time tonight, another PC won't complete installation because it fails on "select and install software". :(

The exact error message is a pop up like this:

Title: Failed to create a File Systen

Message: The ext3 file system creation of SCSI1 (0,0,0) (sda) failed.

For the original problem, I'd suggest you try installing with the Alternate CD instead of the Live CD.

For the 'select and install', does the CD integrity check succeed?
