Details:

2004 HP laptop w/ 512MB RAM

My previous install included many 3rd party Gutsy repositories- but Heron upgrade process disabled them (good). I did have to re-install non-free ATI video and Broadcomm WIFI driver in order to re-enable wifi and compiz. Note that Heron notified me of this in the notification area. Yes, I had to have a wired connection to get WIFI working again.

Broadcomm and ATI non-free upgrades proceeded without issue. Everything works 100% without tweaking. Conclusion: Heron kicks Windows A$$ on a ZX5000.

Note that my original install with Gutsy required Xorg.conf editing (see below). Also, highly recommend that you install and run syndaemon to sanely control the zx5000 touchpad.

Below is my Xorg.conf for zx5000:

# xorg.conf (xorg X Window System server configuration file)
#
# This file was generated by dexconf, the Debian X Configuration tool, using
# values from the debconf database.
#
# Edit this file with caution, and see the xorg.conf manual page.
# (Type "man xorg.conf" at the shell prompt.)
#
# This file is automatically updated on xserver-xorg package upgrades *only*
# if it has not been modified since the last upgrade of the xserver-xorg
# package.
#
# If you have edited this file but would like it to be automatically updated
# again, run the following command:
# sudo dpkg-reconfigure -phigh xserver-xorg

Hope you get this message, I know this post is rather old

I'm struggling to get the same HP zx5000 laptop running Linux but the result are discouraging
For example - Is you laptop able to successfully suspend to RAM and more importantly resume from S3 suspend afterwords?
I think there's some sort of ATI video issue because after resume my display is so corrupted and unreadable I need to reboot in order to use the laptop again
