Now that a new LTS version (64bit)has been released, I intend to upgrade my present previous LTS version (64bit).

Therefore what is the best to do.
Just do an upgrade over the top of the present version
OR
do a completely fresh install over a reformatted disc. If I do this what files do you recommend that I backup before proceeding (i will do docs and pics and suchlike) just need to know if theres anything else thats needs doing.

Seem to be conflicting reports on what is best.

Secondly,
Has support for progs in 64bit improved OR should i install a 32bit version in a 64bit designed system? 32bit seems to be easier to run progs that use utube and other video and audio codecs.

You will do fine wi 64 bit. I'd recommend a clean install. As to what to save, it's up to you.(/home is 6.06 I imagine)
