I've booted on an Ubuntu GNU/Linux 8.04 ("Hardy Heron") and added the package "openoffice.org-base".
The package download runs successfully, the installation apparently too, and appears a new entry for OpenOffice Base in the Applications menu.

But if I open the application with that new icon, OpenOffice.org starts with a new Writer document, and there is no option to call the "Base" module on File menu.

I think I've seen somewhere that because of space issue on the CD, the package was not available. Try to install through Synaptic.

I've already explained that installing the "openoffice.org-base" package doesnt't run OpenOffice Base.

Sorry but it was not clear if it was from the CD or from the repositories.

Personally, I only install the official version: install the official version of OOo : [Ubuntu] Installing OOo on Debian and Co. (http://user.services.openoffice.org/en/forum/viewtopic.php?f=16&t=68)

If you boot the Live-CD (not Live-DVD) and run:
sudo apt-get install openoffice.org-base

or open Synaptic and search and selecto "openoffice.org-base" to install.

Where does this package come from? From the internet (Ubuntu) repositories, of course.
