View Full Version : [ubuntu] A Different Problem at Boot

Hello everyone.

I've done a network upgrade from 6.06 to 8.04, and I'm currently unable to use the newer kernel. The system freezes before the splash screen (pic attached of how far does it get). I've searched for the same problem in the forum, but I haven't been able to find a thread about this,

I can work with the older kernel, but with a thousand annoyances: no usb drive mounting, no printing, no subtitles in Totem!(that last one perplexes me, really.) Anyhow, I'd like to move on to the newer kernel. I have the superstition that all those problems will dissapear then :)

My computer is a Philips Freevents laptop.

Thanks for your help. Cheers,
Manolo

Why are you using an i386 kernel? Is your computer too old or you have too little memory? Install the 24-16-generic kernel.

I tried that. The very same thing happens with the generic kernel...

Looks like a reinstall to me.
