no sound from 7.10 to 8.04

I have no sound after I upgraded to 8.04 Hardy headache, my video looks funny like the dimensions are not right have it set to 1024x768.
shows my video card is installed but the vertical looks stretched to me.
7300gs , my sound is a Nfource 4 chip set on the mother board
help!
