KDE4 panel (Plasma) crashes: Kubuntu 8.04 KDE 4

I installed Compiz Fusion and xserver-xgl. My panel now crashes when I start it with the error:


<unknown program name>(18802)/ checkComposite: Plasma has an argb visual 0x805b9d0 54525953
<unknown program name>(18802)/ checkComposite: Plasma is COMPOSITE-less on 0x805b290

I uninstalled xserver-xgl and the error still stands. I keep compiz from starting and it still happens.

Where should I be looking to find what's wrong?

I know this isn't very helpful, but KDE4.0 is really a beta release, whether they admit it or not. It's best to wait for 4.1 at least.
