i have a hp pavilion dv2122tu notebook with 2.5gb ram ,120 gb hardisk ..
i have ubuntu(hardy) installed on my /dev/sda1 (first partition) and some data on my second (ntfs) partition /dev/sda2 , and i have a free space of about 25 gb after the second partition , my dvdrom is not working , i installed hardy using usb drive , now can i install windows (xp or vista) on the free space , if so will i loose my ubuntu partition ? i have the iso files of xp and vista ultimate and hardy ... on my second partition. if i can install windows on the free space , can i install it using the iso files without the dvd rom ?

Windows needs to be installed on the first partition. I know you can use GParted (http://gparted.sourceforge.net/) to move partitions around, but I have not done it, so I don't want to advise you on how to do that.
