I've tried to install kubuntu 8.04 on my external harddrive for a while now. I've taken help from two other threads:
http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=80811 and
http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=747263

It has worked out pretty good and I've managed to complete all the steps prior the "edit menu.lst"-step. I type:
nano /boot/grub/menu.lst
But instead of a readable, and editable, document all i get is 50,000+ lines of weirdlooking, mumbo-jumbo symbols.

I've also tried to edit it in Windows using Ext2Fsd and Notepad2 but that actually gave a worse result than the first attempt:

A very small extract from menu.lst using Notepad2

So, what should I do o make menu.lst readable?

It seemed like a reinstallation of Kubuntu was all that was needed. After one of those I can read and edit menu.lst without problem.
