Thank you guys for your good comments. Doubts that I have about releasing this theme comes from the Open office. I can`t make it to use color for the menubar other then black, some people tried to help to resolve thast issue, but i had no luck. After all according to this feedback here i will finish the theme and relese it. I just do not know when but it willnot take too long.

i'm one of those types that rarely looks at my desktop (always have a browser or irc window maximized) so i don't need all those fancy things showing weather and such

so on the left is how i normally see things... on the right is what's underneath all that

theme is just customized "out of the box" options
background is simple... take DVD of all quiet at the western front and take a screenshot at the right moment

Thanks, but I've investigated that - the creator got told to stop developing by Apple, even though he offered to work for them. Turns out that the music you buy isn't actually DRM'd until your computer encrypts it, and his client for the store didn't do the encrypting... If anyone has an old version, i'd love a copy!

If you love itunes store so much, you can always make a virtual machine, for example virtualbox supports USB just fine. So you install itunes there, and be happy.

That's purdy, any way you could clue me in on the color changes you made?

Thanks!

I didn't do much but change the orange to that blueish color. The blueish comes from the Arch Linux logo and website.

I don't know what the correct/best way to do this is, but what I did was:
Edit the gtkrc file, where I replaced all the #e04613's with #1793d1's.
And use the Gimp's wonderful filling bucket to fill everything orange (#e04613) with the same blueish (#1793d1) on all the images in the theme folder.

There's still a slight issue between the theme and the menus in Firefox 3, but that's something I had with the 'regular' Elegant Brit as well.

I guess you were asking me, Raul, right?

You see, I gave Ubuntu a week to come up with an update which would repair my broken Xfce install. After the upgrade to Hardy I couldn't login Xfce anymore, or even logout GNOME, so all I could use was indeed KDE. Xfce wouldn't even work after several purging and reinstalling processes. So, these last days I burnt a Xubuntu 8.04 CD and did a fresh install. I already had the same bug once with Xfce (I don't want to install GNOME again) in this new install, and now I'm considering whether I'll install KDE too. I want to, and probably I will today.

All I know is that I'm not that happy with Ubuntu at the moment. Though I can't seem to find anything else that suits me (ok, I can try Arch, but I've been too exhausted lately for that).

P.S.: Installing KDE now, without any Kubuntu-specific packages, of course.

As you might have read above, I did a fresh install, so things are still brand new on my side. On my previous install, after the upgrade to Hardy, though, I never experienced that problem, though I was told several other peoples had it. It seems Canonical didn't treat Xfce and its apps the way they should during the process. It's frustrating.

Desktop by Rox Filer. You can see how minimized programs have icons on the desktop; some (like pdf and pics) even have a small thumbnail.

I am especially proud with my icon dock! :D This is no AWN or something, only normal desktop icons. However, they have special scripts. If you click on the mail icon, for example, it will open thunderbird. But if thunderbird is already opened, it will just take you to the window, un-minimize it and raise it. Some other icons do the same. These programs have mostly one main window, so I find it really useful.

Also, the calendar icon does show the current date. It has a script that cron runs at 0:01 to choose the correct icon for the day. :P

I just did my May desktop alteration. I haven't posted the last few because I have been swamped.

Here's the new one:

Themes: I am using the orbital window border, with glider controls, and a slightly tweaked color scheme to match orbital better. Orbital if I remember right came from art.gnome.org, but it may have been Gnome-looks.org. The pointer is Chameleon-Pearl-Small, which is in the repos. My FF3b5's Theme is little_fox which is available on the addons page.

Wallpaper: I made this wallpaper. It is from two different wallpapers Gimped together. Both of them came from socwall.com.

Icons: I am still hanging on to the black-white 2 style icon set. I have no idea where I found it. One of those random Googlings.

Programs: Screenlets: Sidebar, Terminal, Sysmonitor, and ClearWeather. I removed both of the Gnome panels, and upgraded my AWN dock to the BZR version (not in the repos) It allowed me to finally have applets, like a notification applet which let me eliminate my need for the gnome panel, and the 'Remember the Milk' applet, that's the checkmark icon at the right. Cowsay is running in the terminal, and it is available in the repos. (sudo apt-get install cowsay)

For the AWN bzr I am using this repo: http://ppa.launchpad.net/reacocard-awn/ubuntu There isn't a Source repo attached by the way.

Login: I modified Lars Wohlfahrt's CleanX theme with a different picture. I'll be moving the password and username area down slightly to improve visibility, I just haven't got to it yet.

Skydome: It's a wallpaper I picked up a long time ago from socwall.com

You can go into the pidgin pixmap directory and change the status icons to whatever you want them to be. I don't remember if there was any actual way to theme them...

Testing out the new prototype decorator, Jasper. It doesn't do much of anything, the image support and new theme was just made last night, but there's a lot in store for it. b0le's given it a complete plugin system (exactly the same as Compiz), and it may be integrated into CCSM for ease-of-use. One cool feature is that you can put stuff anywhere, even inside of the window.

No, completely random spike in CPU usage (http://random.ogunderground.com/compiz/cftheme/little_cpu_usage.png). It's actually really small and uses Cairo to render. (Git) (http://gitweb.compiz-fusion.org/?p=users/b0le/jasper;a=summary)

First of all, I have to ask PurposeOfReason a question. Can you put up the shell script that contains your OS and things? Is it hand-typed or does it get all of its information on its own? By the way, I just checked out your DA and am pleased to say that you have excellent tastes in portable media players.

Second of all, here is mine. I made the wallpaper myself. I doubt anybody will need to know what all I have/use, but if they do just ask. I can edit this post with the pertinent information, but I am too lazy right now. Anyway, have a look!

One color is for item, one is for list options. Something like this:

style "inactivetext2"

fg[NORMAL] = "#16778f"
fg[PRELIGHT] = "#6c9eab"
text[PRELIGHT] = "#6c9eab"

I believe. Check out the elegant brit theme to be sure.

Was looking for a dock type of screenlet but to no avail. Still getting the hang of installing things that aren't packages heh

I don't see why one would even need a widget-type dock. Just get a real dock like AWN, Kiba, Cairo-Dock. Heck, I use the mini Akamaru test dock (because, though ancient and featureless, it's a stable implementation of KRH's physics on a dock. I use it as a quick launcher, Cairo is my main dock).

Guys, it's a sphere. Sorry for the horridly stretched pic. You can get tons of better looking ones at the Planet (http://planet.compiz-fusion.org). I'm thinking of trying a Death Star look if I can get the right textures.

Who is that in the photo? I know I've seen her somewhere before and it's killing my brain trying to remember.](*,) Is it the girl from American Beauty?

Cheers, Marco.

i'm thinking the blue trim might be a little over-the-top, but otherwise, i'm pretty pleased.

The blue trim is fine, but really i think that all anyone really needs is hours and minutes. Seconds is just showing off.

What is in a name?

Distro: Debian Testing
GTK: Clearlooks
Metacity: Clearlooks Classic

I'm not much for customizing my desktop. The default clearlooks is elegant enough for me to keep.

You can save memory by running urxvt as a daemon instead of having three separate processes. Read man urxvtc if you're interested.

anyone using cairo-dock? does it need compiz to work? I want to try it, but all those gnome-deps are a downer for me (I have a fast computer, but I'm obsessed with having everything clean and tidy eheh)

I think cairo-dock requires a compositing window manager (xcompmgr should be enough if dont want compiz).
As for the gnome deps, what are few packages more on big hard disks we can have now ?

Cairo-Dock is a bit buggy and still lacking in a few areas, but I like it and use it as my main dock. They just fixed the weather applet... *recompiles*
Seems to have gotten stabler since last night...

In hardy's gnome, you can make metacity itself do compositing, which allows you to run cairo dock or AWN, without adding more stuff.

To give it a try go to gconf-editor, then apps, then metacity, then general, find the "compositing_manager" checkbox and enable it.

Then lock your screen, leave it a while, come back, unlock..Oh look, the desktop is darker than usual and you'll need do metacity --replace to sort it. At least, that used to happen to me anyway.
