It can be installed on an apple computer, but i'm not sure what you mean by installing it on Mac OsX. If your installing it on a macbook or macbookpro use this link https://help.ubuntu.com/community/MacBook

If you want to run a OS on top of another OS you need a virtual machine,like VMware or Vbox.I recommend vbox its pretty user friendly,and it has a MAC version although I think its Intel only.

Get the LiveCD and play with that first so you can see what you're in for. As they said above, you would need an emulator to run it in OS X or make space on your hard to dual boot it.
