I have a real simple question.

I have found loads of pages with linux themes, but how do i install them.

Usually unpack them and copy/move the unpacked folder to $HOME/.themes/. The dot in the front of .themes denotes that it is a hidden folder, so in the file browser you'll need to press ctrl+h to make it visable.

Depends, do you have Gnome, KDE or another DE?

If it's Ubuntu (gnome) - You can install themes via Appearance (system ---> Preferences).

What theme are you trying to install? (a link would be nice) and what is currently in you $HOME/.themes/ directory?

If the items you installed were not a complete theme then you may have to use the "customize" button in the themes section of the appearance menu. For example: if the theme only inluded window borders you could find it listed in its respective section when you customize your current appearance.

I just installed it to see whats up, and it doesn't show up on the main theme browser page. But if you go to customize you can set the controls and window borders to use the theme there.

you could follow this steps

1. right click on your desktop
2. click on change desktop background
3. choose the theme tab
4. drag 'n' drop the theme you downloaded into the theme window
5. then it should install after that then choose the installed theme

u could get more themes here
