I am in Cambodia and I have been trying to download the Student Guide and Instructor Guide for Desktop Training. I cannot use wget nor right click save target as. A torrent would be ideal because they are 70 meg or so.

I think a lot of us on limited bandwidth would appreciate this!

Thanks. the link is here:

See No. 4

I have been trying for more than a week to get these pdf's. I am on crappy wimax that drops in and out in Cambodia.

Is there no way that somebody(Canonical for example) could not put this on a torrent.

Googling around I see that some guys in India are having the same problem.

Please make a torrent for people in the developing world.

I can try to torrent it up for you (unless it's against the rules somehow, i'll double check).

Are pasting torrent links allowed in this forum?

Thanks. I believe they are under a Creative Commons Licence. But best to check we are correct with Ubuntu Community Rules.

I think a torrent will help anybody with a slow internet connection.

Yeah. it's CCL. So it's free to share. I'll torrent it up and post a link here (i guess if it's against the forum they'll either delete it or ban me....heh)

Linking to a torrent is not specifically against the rules. Just make sure that the material you are linking to or distributing is licensed in a way that allows for redistribution. Some Creative Commons licenses -- but not all -- allow for this. As long as you are not violating the license, you are not violating the rules of this forum.

Awesome, thanks. I read it and it allows it to be shared, so i would assume a torrent is perfectly fine. That being said, if the person that actually owns it wants me to remove the torrent, I'll happily comply. Just trying to help some guys out in another country :)

It is the Training Team from Canonical who developed it. I think that Mark Shuttleworth would likely support it given his commitment to supporting education in the developing countries. Broadband is more like dialup here.

I plan to drop off a copy of the .pdf to the Khmer OS people. www.khmeros.info

They are a non-profit who does localisation of unicode. They are big on opensource and even developed a Open Source Textbook that is being used in High Schools based on OpenSuse 10.2

It is not just here though check out these guys in India:

"Re: Get your free Ubuntu Desktop Course!

Seems like you can only afford to use linux if you have a good broadband connection. The site does not support resuming downloads."

and:

"^^ Yep, the site doesn't support resuming and segmented downloading. The downloading was also pretty slow for me. Still it was worth the wait."

http://broadbandforum.in/linux/21887-get-your-free-ubuntu-desktop-course/

He is lucky I can't keep the download linked for 20 hours in one go. Torrents work though or I wouldn't have Hardy!

I see the devlopers are on IRC #ubuntu-training I will leave them a message.

I have just sent an email to the Develpment Team at Canonical. I do note Mark Shuttleworth's intent in this Blog Post:

I emailed Billy Cina from Canonical. Here is his reply. (I am leaving out the email addresses to prevent spamming.)

Thanks mate! Soon I will be able to teach my Khmer wife how to use Ubuntu in a structured way. I am going to make a point of dropping the .pdf's over to the KhmerOS people too.

Okay, this is where the torrent is for the instructor guide:

http://thepiratebay.org/tor/4189631

However, I may not be seeding it for a couple hours as I have to boot up into windows to run some things onto my phone (the ones that wont work through wine or vmware). But if you get the torrent and just let it sit there, it should pick it up as soon as i'm back in linux.
