When I run Skype or Ekiga and press the 'close' button (X on upper-right), they are meant to appear in the System Tray for future use.

Yet I can't find their icons anywhere.

They are still running, as ps -A or the System Monitor shows, but completely inaccessible.

In fact, if I then try to launch an instance, I get an error message that an instnace is running, and the only solution is the kill the process and relaunch every time I wanst to use them, which seems overboard.

How do I find these 'hidden' applications?

(I'm using Hardy Heron 8.04)

Try adding the system tray applet to your panel. Right click and empty space on the panel, choose the option to add an applet and select the system-tray applet.

Its normally top right, where the power icon is (if its a laptop), or where the network icon is.

Thanks, but I couldn't find a System Tray in the list of applets (see attached image), nor is it already on the panel.
