hello everyone, i´m new to this forum and to ubuntu. I installed hardy last week but i have a question.

when i want to enable desktop effects it gives the message it could not be enabled. i worked with Linux before, but not much. i could remember i had to enable my restricted drivers like last time. when i wanted to do that i saw i have no restricted drivers listed. the screen is empty. I checked in synaptic if my ATI videocard had been installed like someone suggested to me. IT says it has a Radeon buil 1.5.

The same person told me if my driver was listed to go to a terminal and type compiz --replace. I did and the screen blinked once and the following message appeared:

compiz --replace
Checking for Xgl: not present.
Found laptop using ati driver.
aborting and using fallback: /usr/bin/metacity

i have no idea what it means. could someone pleas help me. i want my wobly windows back. lol.

tanx in advance. Michel.

ps. i have compiz installed. with the manager.
