Update Manager Broken

Hello Guys. I Have Tried To Upgrade To 8.04 But Before I Could Do So I Found That Update Manager Has Topped Working Along With Add/remove Programs And Synaptic. Im Not Sure When It Stopped Working But I Dont Think I Have Received And Update Messages For Weeks. I Am Using 7.10 Right Now. What Could Have Made These Apps Stop Working And How Can I Fix Them? Thanx....

you can try

System->Admin>Update Manager

if that does not work, try

System->Admin->Synaptic>Mark All Upgrade->Apply

Come back with any errors you get on the way.
