I just took what I think is a rather cool picture with the help from Compiz. So I though: Why in a coffee cup ain't there a thread like this around already?
Please include details on how you made the "effect".
Mine:
4 horizontal desktops
Expo with black reflection colors (far away set to 0 if you want nice reflection)
Enable cube, Opacity when not rotating: 0,0000.
Start expo and drag all windows to workspace 3.
The most important rule: Be creative!

There is a thread, it is a sticky.
Please use that thread to show of screenshots of your desktop.

But this is dedicated to Compiz effects.
It's cool to have for show-of, right?

Given that Ubuntu runs compiz by default, it is safe to say that most of the screenshots in that thread are of Compiz.

I dunno, I mean, it's a little different from the average "desktop screenshot", I'd say it'd warrant a separate thread. (But it's things like that that most likely keep me from being a moderator outside of my own forum...)
It's between this (http://random.ogunderground.com/compiz/cftheme/spherish.png), this (http://random.ogunderground.com/ran_out_of_texture_memory.png), and this old one (http://random.ogunderground.com/compiz/dec31.png).
First pic: Just a simple Spher-ish shot. Second: Lots of apps running under Scale. Last: An old shot of Freewins in action, Freewins has had way too many "improvements" recently and no longer works like it used to...

It's been this (http://random.ogunderground.com/compiz/cftheme/spherish.png), this (http://random.ogunderground.com/ran_out_of_texture_memory.png), and this old one (http://random.ogunderground.com/compiz/dec31.png).
Ok, but if it gets normal desktop screenshots, instead of special Compiz effects it will be merged.

This was the first thought I had when I found that compiz would support a sphere of desktops... Then I settled for the moon:
