upgrade disaster

my upgrade is turning out badly
when i open anything it closes itself
how do i copy my docs
any way to get them to an external hd??????

i don/t know how but using only update manager i got the whole Hardy Installed

my second hard drive wouldn't mount

and i can't get rhythmbox to work it crashes on opening

when i upgraded it hung up
so i restarted
got the can't upgrade message do a partial upgrade then it came up can't do it
I install all updates about 690
then i lost all of my icons and could not open folders
i clicked places and synaptic opened but i have a panel icon close to it
it loaded with about 527 packages needed to upgrade so what the heck i tried it
It then asked to restart and everything is back but now and i seem to be running hardy (hardy har har)

i still can't get rhythmbox to work>>>>> the dvorak keyboard to stay

BUT the odl problems i had with my nvida mx440 screen res is gone woopie
i would rather have my rhythmbox back and the other stuff
