Icons missing

All of the icons in the applications, places, and system menus are missing. Does anyone know how I can get them back?

Are you running visual effects?

Installed any icon themes?

Removed any icon themes?

When did they disappear?

Tried a different icon theme?

Gutsy, Hardy?

I am running Hardy. Visual effects on or off, it dosn't matter. they disappeared a while ago when I was using Gusty, after some error (I don't remember what it was) I have tried multiple icon themes, but it makes no difference. I have installed Icon themes, but not before the problem. I have not un-installed any themes. I didn't ask about this at first because I hoped the upgrade to hardy (then a couple of weeks off) would fix it. The icons missing include the Ubuntu logo, as well as the program icons, folder icons, and preference and admin icons. This only happens in the menus however, all the rest of the time they are fine

I am having the same problem post-hardy upgrade. I'll post back here if I find a fix.
