Hi,
Recently, I did a fresh install of Ubuntu 8.04. Everything was working flawlessly until I installed nvidia drivers using the Restricted Hardware feature. It installed correctly and asked for a restart. I did it, but after the boot, as soon as the gnome is loaded, the system becomes VERY slow. Even the mouse moves with a HUGE lag. I booted in recovery mode and rebuild X, it disabled the nvidia drivers and everything was normal again. I reenabled it and the system became slow as hell again too. I tried to fix the usplash.conf, the menu.lst and other things people on the forum suggested, but nothing worked.
My PC is an AMD Athlon XP 2400+, 512MB RAM, nVidia GeForce FX 5600
