Anyone know of a good rss based news ticker? I use kubuntu heron. I need that news ticker to be on my desktop all the time and the background to be transparent so that i get my desktop wallpaper as background of the ticker :) Any suggestions?

For KDE 3.5.x, there is Superkaramba, which displays widgets of the type you are looking for. Many widgets, including RSS tickers, are available at kde-apps.org. For KDE 4, there are "plasmoids" that act much like Superkaramba widgets, but I am less familiar with these.

There is also Conky, a system monitor application that works in any X window manager, including KDE. It is relatively easy to add an RSS feed to this monitor.

Thanks for the reply. But i didnt want to use superkaramba. I always had issues with that. Some apps i found in kde-app.org were also dependent on superkaramba. Anything else? btw, i do use conky for sys info. Most rss scripts for conky doesnt look that good.So an app is better option
