After updating my Thinkpad T40 from Ubuntu 7.10 Studio to 8.04 I have two problems:
1) I see the message:
" The greeter application seems to be crashing. Attempting to use a different one."
at every boot. If I select an older kernel from the grub menu I am always able to login otherwise is crapshoot.
2) Occasionally the laptop locks hard and needs power reset.Seems to happen when switching back to a Firefox Window but I haven't seen enough instances to be sure. If I choose a safe gnome session as I did this time doesn't seem to lock up.
FWIW, a clean install to a T61 doesn't seem to have any problem.
Thank you for any help with this
