uninstall hardy upgrade

I upgraded to hardy but am having too many problems and don't want to waste the time trying a clean install, tweaking, etc. Gutsy worked flawlessly for me.

So, how do I uninstall the upgrade? I've seen cryptic references to this being easy to do (in various threads) but nobody seems to know exactly how to do this.
