Mandriva's are custom ones. I don't know if Ubuntu uses upstream defaults or has its own.

i think the edge goes to mandy. if it was ubuntustudio vs. mandriva, then im not so sure.

off topic but, compiz works great in mandy but how do you get 3D windows set? there was no option in CCSM. the cube looks weak without 3D windows.

Ditto, I didn't vote as login sounds are evil and must be punished - they destroy my laptop's speakers when I boot from a liveCD, as I posted on the ubuntu brainstorm site here (http://brainstorm.ubuntu.com/idea/4830/).

Mandriva does this too, the sound might be ok, put playing it at full volume before my desktop (and volume controls) have loaded will not endear it to me!

Yeah, I really like Ubuntu and use it as my primary OS, but after listening to Mandriva's sounds I want better sounds in Ubuntu. I wish I knew anything about how those sounds are made.

login sounds can be whatever you like.

personally i just set up a script to start last.fm playing when i log in.

I changed my Ubuntu log in/log out sounds with sounds that I downloaded from gnome-look, but that doesn't counts.
What counts is what you would listen to if you use a live-cd or if you do a fresh install.

wolfen: you may need to install compiz-fusion-plugins-extra , compiz-fusion-plugins-main or compiz-fusion-plugins-unsupported .

r76: I think there's a bug open for that issue already. It should be something that can be fixed...

I like Mandriva's sounds, don't get me wrong, (much better than the usual KDE piano sounds), but I don't see anything wrong with Ubuntu's.

I even like the word "Ubuntu."

Maybe I'm just weird :-)

Other than that, I agree with r76: they shouldn't be played at full volume.

Out of all the OS' i've tried, Mac OS X tops it off, never tried Mandriva.
