View Full Version : [ubuntu] Hardy desktop i386 have to use Failsafe GNOME to get in - "8254 timer not connected"

This is day 2 of my journey away from Windows and I have a dual boot PC 32 bit - when I try to get into Ubuntu I put in my u/n and p/w - it accepts them without error but just puts me back to the u/n form again - it simply cycles round.

What I have found is when booting up I get an error message --

"MP BIOS 8254 timer not connected to IO-APIC"

I can get in using the u/n amd p/w with a "Failsafe GNOME" session.

Does anyone know how to get me in otherwise?

I am not a programmer - hence that is why I am trying this version of Linux.
