Compile Programs

Did a clean install of 8.4 - I tried to compile a program and get a error message relative to gcc - I checked and gcc is installed. What else do I need?

You need to install:
sudo aptitude install build-essential

I would try the same thing. Also if this doesnt work try to post the actual error messages by copying them out of terminal. We will be able to better help you that way.
