Hey

I'm experimenting 8.04 on a very very very old pc. Since it does not have a hdd, thought of using a 4gb usb stick lying around. Problem is that the PC doesn't know how to boot from the usb.
Managed the install quite easily but don't know how to boot.
I only have a dvd drive, the pc doesn't have a floppy drive.
What are the boot options to try with the live dvd to boot off the usb drive ? As I recall, the install was made on /sda1

Thanks.

Could you post the specifications of your PC? Also, what flavour of Ubuntu are you trying to install?

PC specs are a very very very (underline very) old 350mhz pentium with 128mb ram.
Flavour is the 8.04 Desktop Live DvD (didn't have any blank cds so downloaded the dvd version).

Thanks for the link Bubba64, but where exactly does it say how to boot the usb if the computer doesn't support usb boot ? (mentioned in the first post).

With your system it would be a surprise if you could even reach the desktop let alone the login screen, Ubuntu requires a minimum of 384Mb of RAM so either you would have to increase the amount of RAM(a processor upgrade would also be better) or you could install a lighter version of Ubuntu like Xubuntu (http://www.xubuntu.org/get) or Fluxbuntu (http://wiki.fluxbuntu.org/index.php?title=Get).

So, there is no way to boot from the usb using the desktop dvd ?
