In Hardy Heron 8.04, after going through the Xubuntu startup loading screen, my computer flashes to blank, then seemingly "black", back to blank, and ending on the black screen. To login to my normal Xubuntu again, i choose the recovery mode in grub, and do Try to fix X server. After that, i choose boot normally and it all works.

Of course, I'm wondering why this is happening and/or how to not have to go into recovery mode everytime.

Thanks in advance.

same thing happens for me sometimes. when it happens I have to <ctrl>+<alt>+<backspace> to get out and restart X. then it works.

it doesn't happen often but it's really annoying and frustrating when it does because i'm really hoping to get my installation running as smooth as my xp so i can completely switch over :(

Yeah, thats how it worked with my back with Gusty Gibbon. Unfortunately though, now with my upgrade i cant even restart X with the CTRL ALT Backspace command, i simply have to do the steps i described before.
