Install problems with 8.04

I have a Dell Dimention 3000

I have tried to install Ubuntu, Kubuntu and the alternate install of Kubuntu.

With Ubuntu, I would get stuck when it was booting up either to the Live CD or the Installer.

With the alternative CD I got stuck at 91% at the very end.

Each time the system stopped responding.

I need to get some help!!

Finally got Kubuntu installed from the alternative CD...

But here's a new problem. When it was booting for the first time, the progress indicator got about 1/8 the way across, and the system locked up.

Any ideas on why that would happen?

Please help!
