How do I restart stalled 8.04 upograde?

I'm stuck in the middle of an upgrade to 8.04 with the install upgrade process stalled.
The terminal window says that there are errors installing

network manager
network manager gnome

Can anyone give me an idea of what I should do next. The install process will not continue and I don't want to just power off and see what happens (I imagine I would have a broken install)?

Here's an update.

I powered down and the laptop booted into Ubuntu 8.04. The wireless dongle worked immediately (which was a relief as previous upgrades always led to a previously supported device falling over dead).

I still get a crash report coming up warning me network manager isn't installed (though it must be).
