I had this problem with Gutsy also, so I sorta assumed it would get fixed by this point. I have Ubuntu installed on two computers. One of them displays the boot splash fine, but the other one has never done so, It only displays a black screen until X loads up. If I boot from the live-CD this problem does not occur. Also, the beta version of Hardy worked, but the actual release doesnt. I'm not sure why this was fixed and then became broken again, but it is sort of annoying. However, It's not really a big deal seeing as how I have just turned off splash and quiet for boot options, but I am curious as to how to fix it.
