Hi,

Currently I have xubuntu 7.10? on a Compaq Presario 2100 laptop. I want to upgrade to ubuntu 8.4 by just performing a completely clean install.

Currently, when the boot menu appears and I select 'Install' or whatever it is, I manage to get to the language selection screen and then on to the timezone selection screen. Past this point I get a blank (black) screen with a flashing cursor. I am able to type, but no commands e.g. 'help' seem to work. I have left this scrren for about 30 mins (just thinking the laptop is slow) but nothing happens.

I have tried loading it up into the dsktop from the live cd and try the install that way but the same problem occurs. I get past selecting the timezone and then nothing else occurs.

To be on the safe side I went back and have re-written the CD at the lowest speed possible and also verified the ISO from the boot menu.

I was wondering if anyone knows what this might mean?

Thanks
