Nearly Everything Works!!!
The nasty boot error message is gone.
The only thing left to get fully functional is the 04f2:b016 Chicony VGA 30fps UVC Webcam (HP notebooks) driver. Contrary to the uvcvideo website, this camera doesn't seem to be working, at least not for more than 10 or so seconds at a time. The uvcvideo driver can be found here http://linux-uvc.berlios.de/
If anyone knows the workaround please post it here, it is literally the only thing not working on this laptop, knock that down and this wicked little machine is a 100%er.
