Hello,

I had a PC some days before, which could boot from the Ubuntu 7.10 CD just fine. I changed parts yesterday, and I got two problems :

1. Before I format my new hard drive, I tried to install ubuntu but it failed, when trying to run the init local scripts. I should add that even Suse 9.3 wouldn't boot , not even an ages-forgotten knoppix cd, it was some failure with kernel loading apparently.

2. Now I installed Windows XP & tried to boot from CD, but crashes much earlier at the loading screen.

What could be wrong??

The old harddisk was a WD 120 GB, the new one is a Hitatchi 400GB

Many thanks,
babis
